Nick and the gay-like food blog dream

Well now, apparently I've been getting comments on how prosperous I am when it comes to food. Makan here, makan there, makan everywhere and best of all; still having saving at the end of the month. The secret to doing this is 6 days of Maggi Mee and one day of unnecessary spending on food and nothing else. Today's exploits have brought me to Lynn's Cafe in SS15, Subang Jaya (Naturally because I'm poor as a church mouse to afford a car). Having only had garlic toast and milk tea for breakfast, I was famished before the clock reached 4. Together with Minniesaurus, Moo, Thahira and gay food blogger Nick, we went to check out the relatively new joint in town. It was so good, Nick was inspired to start a joint food blog with me. Gayness +1.

Here goes...

Nick's Lemongrass Chicken that looks like rendang but tastes so much more. Did not really steal a lot of bites from his. According to him, the rice was tasteless. Chicken saved the day. Set came with ice lemon tea, the dish itself and fruits for good measure.
Price : RM7.90

Thahira's Kampung fried rice. Apparently very good for cafe standards. Was too busy eating my own stuff to even try it. I was famished...no...really...look after this for proof.
Price: Can't remember but definitely around the range of Nick's

Myself attacking the Stir fried spaghetti with herbs. Menu said herbs but I got prawns, crabsticks, carrots, capsicums and mushooms on top of the herbs. So good it was gone in 5 minutes. I asked for a supersized one. Set comes with fruits and tea.
Price: RM9.90

Moo's Kerabu fried rice. The rice was Kerabu-ish although not authentic. Sour taste of Kerabu was definitely there. Reminded me of Yong Chow fried rice with a dash of lime. Not that its bad to begin with :)
Price: Too busy spamming spaghetti to think. Less than 10 bucks guaranteed.

This is Thahira's bloody sinful...i repeat...BLOOOOOOOODYYYYYY sinful Hershey's Chocolate Brownies. Remember how brownies always end up tasting like biscuits? This doesn't. Fresh warm brownies topped with Hot Hershey's chocolate syrup with vanilla ice cream to boot. I'd hit it anyday, anytime, anywhere. I wish I took Thahira's pic after she was done. She could muster no words except for the devilish grin of satisfaction...its THAT good I tell you.
Price: RM6.80

Lynn's Cafe sign in the shop. Serves good food with a nice atmosphere to go with it. Has a good selection of classical and jazz music and dim lighting. Perfect for couples and if you do have a large group. There's a table inside that can accomodate 20 odd people. Serves beer if you really need you alcohol fix. Otherwise, just go there for the food. Desserts are highly recommended based on the reputation of the brownies itself. Here's the address :

Lynn's Cafe Enterprise,
6, Jalan SS15/4,
47500 Subang jaya,
Selangor Darul Ehsan.

You should always give a second chance

As serious the title may sound, this has purely to do with food and only food;...yummy food at that :p My destination last night after share group was to be some dai chow(big fry or properly known as cantonese fried) place in downtown KL. The hungry ghosts Kevin, Foong Yee, Theodore and myself rushed through the night's topic out of sheer hunger that even the closing prayer I said that night sounded like saying grace for a meal...malu sial...

Since it was getting late 9.30, we had to choose between dai chow or Carl's Jr in pyramid. We took option number 3 (non existent and based on random banging) Station One Cafe in SS15. My appetite went out the window the minute that place was suggested because of my past experiences there. This time around, the prices have increased and I thought, Oh Shiii...so i went for the cheapest thing I could get. Grilled chicken rice with no drinks. After a round or two of 'chor dai dee' the food arrived. My gosh it looked very presentable with not one grain of rice out of place. I quickly dug in...and had to swear that I was in a different restaurant that night. Very tender chicken with black pepper sauce coupled with a chilli sausage and egg rice for the small price of RM12.50...ok lah, not so small now is it?

The food easily had an improvement five times over the last time and if I could really afford to go again, I would. This time around, the second chance was sort of forced onto me instead of me giving it. Looking forward to more dining experiences with Station One now. Ending this post while slowly slurping the remainder of my Indo Mee on the table. Broke due to last night's moment of indulgence. >.<"

Anger management program

Right then, I don't think I would be mashing my words in such a way that I would sound merciful and indirect. I was back in Ipoh the last weekend for the main purpose of going for the History Makers 7th anniversary celebration. Celebration it was all right; just not for us who came all the way 200km down from the capital. Seriously, formal event with no seating arrangements? Why not rename it as HM 7th anniversary open house then? After securing proper seats twice; yes, TWICE (due to being evicted by persons in charge the first time and turning a deaf ear the second time round)we could get underway enjoying our not so hearty meal(loss of appetite due to events beforehand).

At the end of the day, my wish was simple. To celebrate the 7 wonderful years HM has been around and I daresay I felt immensely proud that we went through all the ups and downs all those years. The theme is still clear in my mind; 'Perfect Grace' but to some of us, it might have turned out to be a perfect disgrace instead. Surely I don't expect to be treated like a VIP just because I haven't been around but shoving us around like sheep being herded straight into the abattoir? That's not how you treat guests my dear committee members. When you organize an event and even if an earthquake happens, always ensure you give the guests a good impression even if it pains you so. You can't please everyone but did you really have to displease us then? As trivial as this matter may be, I really hope they take into consideration our advice to ensure more successful events in future. Had I posted this the night of the event itself, I doubt I could have kept a cool head and lambasted anything and everything wrong about the event.

Right, on a lighter note, was not able to catch up with any of my Ipoh buddies due to the Deepavali celebrations on Monday. I was free on Sunday but turns out the timing was screwed up. So being the yumchar animal that I am, terpaksalah aku menangkap orang-orang KL keluar minum di Ipoh. Its definitely sad when people in your hometown have no time for you. Well, at least they don't blame you for neglecting them instead :p.

God is GREAT, no denying that. He can choose to bless you in multiple times you never dared imagine. This is with regards to my internship applications. When other people can have one choice, I had the liberty of choosing between two companies(Citibank and SP Setia). Furthermore, I could have had a pending interview with DHL Malaysia. My choice for the internship is Citibank. If I told you why, you would have thought of me as a serial slacker who couldn't care less about the job :p

Let's call it a day for now. It does feel good letting off some steam here. Hence the andger management program header :)

PS: Do visit funky chikin's blog on how we waded through that awful night. http://www.funkykai.blogspot.com/

Of studies and trading

I have officially started to revise for the final examination due in 4 weeks time. Pretty early by any student's standards now eh? The more sems I go through, the more subjects of doom I have to take. This semester's subject of doom : Finance and Investment. Aside from the paper consisting 50% theoretical questions that are in multiple choice format, we have to deal with a negative marking system a.k.a anti tembaking system. Pick a right answer and you get 1 mark. Get it wrong, see 0.67 marks taken off your total marks now. The only way to deal with it is knowing your stuff, which I do not have a clue about at the moment, hence the early studying.

On a lighter note, my final assignment is due next week after the long Deepavali holidays. Hopefully I did trust the right people to get their parts done. I'm a very lax leader if I may say so. So lax that people generally panic at my approaches in solving things. I give you your part and you do it, I ain't gonna moderate you ala Asian education style. Anything unsatisfactory, I just change as I see fit. :) All this works for me so far cuz they get too scared to even slack (I hope).

Currently am contemplating on whether or not to sell of my trusty partner the NEC Versa E3100 (not Choong Pui San) that has served me the past 2 and a half years. After doing some research, its still worth a good sum of RM900 mainly because of the 2 hour battery life (can go up to 3 and a 1/2 without WiFi). Currently looking at the new Compaq's that come with, naturally, new processors and a discreet graphics card, the HD 3450. CoD4 on a lappie had never been better :p

Ain't she a beaut? Although it utilizes ye olde HP design lah.

Out of the storm into calmer seas

The storm is over...as far as I know it though. Its safe to assume that my part in the yearbook has been done and i feel that i stood to gain from this especially in the area of corresponding with different departments in college. No matter how big and well structured an organisation is, assuming it is efficient is a folly one must not take lightly. Larger organisations, more protocols.

The final hurdle for that hectic month was a double assignment due on the same day. It just had to fall on a Monday yes? Sunday was a self declared no sleep day for me as I took my time in doing the assignment while surfing the net the entire night. Actually managed to feel so calm and collected. The nostalgic (been using this a lot lately, thanks yearbook :p) gut feeling that everything will turn out right was there at that moment.

For now its two weeks siesta before the final assignment is due. I shall tell myself five times a day to study. I shall use the mosque's call to prayer as a reminder to study every time I hear it :p(except the one at 5 a.m lah). I shall do my best to get a high distinction in at least one subject this semester too. Work to improve myself and not cause I have to. It really sucks but I have to say, my teenage life is reaching the end of its lifespan. Time to grow up, Aaron.

Celebrating 20 with a bang...!!!

I was 20 years old just like that. A simple uneventful day made hectic by issues I have been continuously ranting about in my last 2 posts. There were moments that really lifted my day but even more weighing it down. A good start to the day was having the entire lecture hall sing me a birthday song randomly while I was fixing the computer link to the projector. They wanted to do it again during lunchtime at the crowded ground floor. Monkeys they are; love them I do. Thanks guys and girls.

What really made my mood plunge to oblivion that day was discovering how inept people can be especially when they are expected to be the most efficient body in the entire school. I was exposed to ridiculous amounts of red tape and protocols that could clearly be bent. How hard is it to sign a damn introductory message that was written FOR you? 5 seconds? Heck, I can even give 5 minutes but please don't delegate the bloody thing back to me lah. Why don't I just be the VIP myself then since i can write award winning, morale boosting, tear inducing messages whenever I fancy?

Good thing is, i pampered myself to a round of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare at the reliable Asia.Net. Although I was playing alone on a special day, its okay I said. The very next day was THE bomb. I discovered that i failed the assignment 1 of my Market Research much to everyone's surprise. The talk cock king has finally fallen. Semua orang suruh aku cari lecturer tu. Tapi I tak nak sebab I am fed-up with the current amount of shit to deal with. Indah Water treatment plants would officially be a pleasure for me to work in.

The 2 things that kept me sane all this while? My baby who is always by my side no matter what to give me the strength and tell me I'm HER man. The other being successfully applying for an internship at SP Setia. Just hope that's for real though.

Please please please dear God let me not post emofied posts anymore:(

The holiday that failed to materialise

What is the purpose of a holiday? Fun and relaxation is what comes to mind of most people I know. But what on Earth am I doing with so many datelines for this and that? Also having to deal with unreasonable parties which make or break the key elements of the current job I have. I remembered how clearly I mentioned that we are slaves to technology now. And yes it does apply to carefree ol' me. My supposed holiday in Penang and Genting (where I am now) was marred by anxiety and stress of datelines to meet and responsibilities to hold.
Picture yourself trying to have Laksa or Char Koay Teow with your hands on the keyboard and mouse. How I'd love a huge straw to help me then. So long for this venting of my frustration here on my blog. Signing out.

The break that wasn't...

The official semester break for my course starts next week. Man's abuse of time and technology meant that students are not meant to enjoy their well-deserved breaks. Why? Lets start from the very top on why technology is a bane than a blessing.Man had in mind, created the computer and technologies to ease movement and communication and make life easier. Something happened along the way and some brilliant person had to start thinking,'Hey, why not increase the workload when everything can be done so fast now?'

This has brought us to the day we live in. Unrealistic expectations from people who assume technology allows people to work efficiently without being mindless drones slogging at the office during the weekend. How wrong they were indeed.
We have now, people having to sacrifice lovely time to be with their loved ones. Everyone has a PDA, Organizer, Mini Notebook and all sorts or mini-themed devices that provide some sort of a leash for employees to remember that damn dateline of projects, proposals, presentations, meetings, video, business plan etc. In short, there are really no 5 days-in-the-office week. New we all wish for an 8 or 9 day office week instead.

The good thing is, I'm merely a student. This is still at the tip of the iceberg for me. Disgruntled as I may be, conformity is what drives us to do what we do. Conforming to standards that only look at success when failure itself can means a personal success of sorts. I have yet to fail in my tertiary education life because I conform whether i like it or not. Conform I will as long as it keeps me safe from being screwed by the world.

As often quoted by many college students : F*** the world lah!

The list of 'I want' wheels

I have come to terms with the needs, wants and demands analogy. As the economic scarcity term goes, we have limitless wants and demands yet insufficient resources to actually satisfy everyone. Therefore, I have narrowed down my list of needs, wants and demands to feature the best set of wheels this man could ever want (only applicable for 2008). All this is dependent on how much would my salary be in future of course.

Below RM 50,000

The Proton Satria GTi. For under 50,000 bucks, one should most definitely get a Proton. My pick would be the Satria GTi simply because I like cornering at high speeds and only a car with handling that's NOT from Proton will suffice. Thank you Lotus.

RM50,000 - RM100,000

Anyone with a budget of above 50,000 should immediately set their sights on foreign makes as they have the quality control and also the comfort and style no current Malaysian car has (in my honest opinion anyways). My pick for this range is the 2004 Honda City Vtec. Whats not to like about a seven speed automatic car that changes from a subtle easy-on-the-petrol mode to a fierce ah-beng's Proton Wira-with-broom-broom-exhaust annihilator at the flick of a switch?

Above RM100,000

At this price range, I would go against the norm of getting a Honda Civic like any other junior executive and go for this Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 GT simply because it sets me apart from the rest. Is that the only reason why? Well, for starters, the paddle shifting technology would give me the satisfaction of driving something like an F1 car without applying for the Super License. Not to mention it looks more menacing than the Civic with its 'Jaws-like' front design.

Above RM200,000

Ask me why I had to make a special category of 200,000 bucks and I would tell you its simply because of this : The Audi A4. Pictured here is the A4 with the Rieger bodykit modification. The car itself costs RM265,000 on the road. What's so special about it?

Its not a Beemer nor a Merc. Enough said.

Assignment blues

I'm in dire need to blow off some steam of doing last minute assignments(as usual-I told you so-HAH!!!). Its due tomorrow and I haven't typed it out yet. Not one word. Score one for diligence eh? I blame this on the relaxing weekend I had prior to this. My folks and siblings came down to KL to celebrate two birthdays. In fact, it was so relaxing my finger could not muster the strength to apply pressure on the capture button of my camera. Therefore, no pictures of the wonderful Chinese restaurant in PJ and Balinese themed restaurant in the wilderness of Sg. Buloh. Not forgetting those wonderful cakes from La Manila and Ylang-Ylang.
Good news would be that fasting month has started. I shall now fast all those delicious and wonderful food KL has to offer to prove how pious I am. I have decided that the fasting period would be daily periods between breakfast and lunch and between lunch and dinner. Then it would be a no holds barred makan-fest if my piousness did not get the better of me and spurred me to fast the night long as well.
Fasting is wonderful and rewarding of you do it like me. Agreed?

Dread

Currently in the college lounge typing this post. I'm supposed to have 8 hours of class today but somehow the lazy bones got the better of me and I took 2 off just to slack and do nothing. The unfortunate subject? Market Research. The syllabus is so boring and dreadful it actually takes the inquisitiveness associated with research based subjects directly out from me. The plus side though, I got to play around with my camera's macro mode this morning when my classmates camera failed to take a close up shot of an accessory which I suppose is from his girlfriend. For a 500 ringgit phone you get quality pictures. The downside to this...

The college computers have to bluetooth adapters. :(

Two thumbs up to Sony Ericsson though for making this phone, the K550i

Over the weekend...

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to spend all my time going places in the PJ area along with my girlfriend cum tour guide. Among the things I managed to discover are:

1) Wall.E was a decent movie from the second half of the movie onwards.

2) Amcorp Mall exceeds expectations and is definitely NOT a run down/boring place to be.

3) A&W's fried chicken is oh-so-good and not to mention healthier than KFC's selection any day.

4) Sri Murni in SS2 serves Chinese-style tasting pasta to those who seldom have Western cuisine.

5) Napoleon fried rice is definitely worth a try

6) Rapid KL has terrible bus frequency and punctuality. Maybe that's why Metrobus is still in business now.

7) Don't mess with the Zohan is not that bad of a movie and good to watch if you want to learn Israelish (Israeli english accent) and what Hamas and Hezbollah is actually good for

8) October is a very very wet season and a great time to hunt for a new umbrella.

9) Always ask if your friends are going for class before you end up going alone empty handed. Oh reliable acquaintances, where art thou?

The things above definitely made my weekend. I'm too lazy to post up any pics because i have an old laptop which does it at snail speed +1. Keep reading and commenting, I may just oblige by posting more :) Have a nice day.

Conform?

I've spent the last few days thinking about something. Am I doing enough currently to prepare for the future? I came to realize that I might not graduate from university with a very nice CV at the rate I'm going. Watching other friends being so active in activities does make me wonder. Yes, I may have the skills to market myself, but do i have the credentials to prove it? All of this started when i started looking at internship requirements for companies such as British American Tobacco, Citibank, Sony and other companies which require a management trainee. Just thinking of those names made me realize that they were in fact multinational corporations who would not consider any average Joe as their intern.
So, that's it. I surely do hope i have the motivation to take that first step to involve myself in at least ONE co-curricular activity in college. *sigh*. Playing games for a living cannot really apply in this world and generation I'm in now eh? World standards say that the recipe for success is good skills and a good CV. Should I conform or would I...

The Conclusion

So today we had a meeting with the committee at 10.30 in the morning. We let them speak their mind first and questioned them later to which we got half baked and some even ridiculous answers from the president. The incident was that when the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team arrived. They told those teams they were the first three. Miscommunication number two at that. Number one being that they never announced it to all the other teams we had an advantage.

Even more shocking because they did not think of the aftermath real resourceful people could have given them after the event. Heck, we had a whole hours advantage over the rest, not resourceful enough? So screwing they got via our group representative G. All they could say was having an advantage did not mean it would guarantee our victory. Somehow its like saying Badawi had a 20000 vote majority but does not guarantee him victory in the elections. At the end, the wisest member of the group asked for more time to reconvene. Seriously, it was the first logical explanation I have heard all day. And did I mention they wanted to give us a dvd player and some vouchers as compensation for 2000 bucks worth of prizes?

So we met again at 4.30. This time they agreed to our terms of being acknowledged as the joint winners. I don't like sharing victory. But at least there's gonna be an apology letter to the public announcing the details of the incident which clearly proves that our team are the real winners. Sufficient enough emotionally, can't say the same for monetary terms. And we had to accept the fact that SAC of TBS is kinda poor...and they cant just pull a stack of RM2000 from nowhere. So we left it at that. Vouchers, possibly paintball vouchers and a meal at secret recipe sponsored by them to cover the rest. Your verdict people?

Adventurace

So there I was...planning to post in detail all the obstacles our team went through to finish first in the adventurace 2008...UNTIL...we were screwed of the position due to no apparent reason except 'judges decision are final'. It all started when at one leg we were given a math equation and we were supposed to find the combination which gives the highest value. Fine, after one attempt, we succeeded and sent in the answer via sms as we were told.

The reply said we were wrong,so we kept trying. after being frustrated for one hour and 20 minutes, some committee members showed up at our checkpoint and verified that our first answer was right. AND that the 1 hour 20 mins extra will be shaved off the final time. We reached the finishing line at 5.47 pm while the first team there was 5.30-ish. So according to our waived time, our official time should be 4.30 something pm. BUT before the ceremony, the judges said that they wanted to forfeit the extra time for our team and another team's, causing us to drop from 1st and 2nd to 4th and God knows what. If this was done to you with a simple reason of judges decision is final, won't you love to tie up them judges and fire paintball pellets at them?

We called for a meeting with the organizers on Monday, we shall see how things turn out.

Adventurace 2008

Previously...

Yes, here it is again. ADVENTURACE 2008 organized by Taylor's Business School. Basically, it is something like amazing race plus fear factor thingy where we have to race against time and take part in some of the most disgusting icky yucky obstacles known to docile college students. For illustration purposes, think digging for coins in this :

This is a mixture of rotten chicken, rotten eggs, rotten tofu, rotten politicians, worms and rotten compilation of college assignments...(okay,maybe not the last one). Dig in to draw coins for the Adventurace shake or as I'd like to call it, puke puke shake that makes you puke. Kinda figures doesn't it? We had a mixture of butter, butter, tofu and bitter gourd and i think some milk? With so much butter, it slides down the throat. Only to come up just as easy. Jack Daniel would be proud :p

As for this years race, its 2 days and 1 night as opposed to a full day the previous year. This years race also covers areas outside of Selangor and we would be taking part in teams of three instead of the previous four. This year its gonna be Aaron Onn(me), Sara Leong(uhh, femme fatale?) and G(Spartan warrior with well distributed fat around the muscles). One thing that remains the same though is our team name- IPOHKIA - all members born and bred with Ipoh, land of giant tauge...

Okay, thats about all of Adventurace I'd like to cover. Back to assignments...zzzzz

back for good?

So for some apparent reason i have the mood to blog again after a year or so without posting. Probably after seeing how blogging can earn me some extra income through Nuffnang and such, I'd give it another shot just for the lolz. To those who may or may not know, I've shut down my previous blog at Xanga because of the lukewarm response there. Well, I guess this signals a fresh start for me. And yeah, my blog posts from here on shall utilize proper English instead of Manglish, Singlish, Hokkienlish, Ticklish and etc. And yes, i shall keep this blog tidy from nonsense, I hope... no, seriously I hope... Okay, so much for my first post in a long time, will catch you next time I'm on. Do have a nice day.
